Unless stated otherwise, meetings of The RHS of NSW Inc. for 2013 will be held of the 4th Wednesday of the month at Beecroft Bowling Club, 128 Copeland Road, Beecroft, commencing at 9.45 am on the following dates:


WEDNESDAY 26 JUNE
Regular meeting. Please see Floral Art page and/or Specimen exhibit page for competition categories for this meeting. The horticultural guest speaker will be RHS Secretary, Heather Pryor, speaking about the garden events she visited in Amsterdam in May, 2013 (this is a short notice change to our previously advised speaker). The floral art demonstration will be conducted by Mrs. Joan Perkins and Mrs. Elizabeth Fuller of Ikebana International.


WEDNESDAY 24 JULY
Regular meeting. Please see Floral Art page and/or Specimen exhibit page for competition categories for this meeting. The horticultural guest speaker with be Hon. President, Mrs. Cecily Rogers who will speak about her 2012 European trip. The floral art demonstrator will be Mrs. Madhu Shah.


WEDNESDAY 14 AUGUST
Workshop day. Subject will be 'Wiring a floral ball'. BYO lunch.


WEDNESDAY 28 AUGUST
This will be the Society's Annual General Meeting. Regular meeting to follow. Please see Floral Art page and/or Specimen exhibit page for competition categories for this meeting. The horticultural guest speaker will be Mrs. Robyn Bible, who will speak about Pelargoniums and Geraniums. Due to the shortness of time, no floral art demonstration will occur at this meeting.


WEDNESDAY 25 SEPTEMBER
Regular meeting. Please see Floral Art page and/or Specimen exhibit page for competition categories for this meeting. Horticultural guest speaker will be Mr. Gary Larkin speaking about Orchids. The floral art demonstrator will be Mrs. Ok Hee Song.


WEDNESDAY 23 OCTOBER
Regular meeting. Please see Floral Art page and/or Specimen exhibit page for competition categories for this meeting. The horticultural speaker will be Mr. Bernard Pryor speaking about the 2013 RHS (UK) Malvern Show. The floral art demonstration will be conducted by Mrs. Lanny Pramana.


WEDNESDAY 13 NOVEMBER
Workshop day. Subject to be 'Christmas theme'. BYO lunch.


THURSDAY 28 NOVEMBER

SATURDAY 20 JULY, 2013

The Highland Garden Society Bowral, Inc. will be holding its annual 'Winter Seminar' today. The event commences at 9.45am and is being held at the Uniting Church Hall, Cnr. Boolwey & Bendooley Streets, Bowra. The cost is $25 per person, which includes morning tea, luncheon and some great guest speakers. This years event features Mr. Simon Riclands, talking on 'designing an herbaceous border' plus 'heirloom vegetables' plus Mr. Paul Tyerman talking on 'rare bulbs. Engadine Home Gardners' Club Inc. will be holding their Annual Spring Flower Show today at Engadine Central Public School Hall, Waratah Road, Engadine from 11am - 4pm. Gold coin entry (donation to the school) fee. There will be entries in the following: decorative arrangements, flowers, succulents, potted plants, vegetables and daffodil championship. SATURDAY 21 SEPTEMBER, 2013

Caringbah Garden Club will be holding their annual Spring Floral Art and Garden Show today at Caringbah High School Gymnasium, Willarong Road, Caringbah. The event opens at 12 noon and concludes at 4pm. Enjoy horticultural displays, floral art, cut flowers, pot plants, fruit and vegetable displays and more. A craft and book stall is available for your pleasure, as will be afternoon tea. Entry is $3 for adults, with children free. SATURDAY 21 & SUNDAY 22 SEPTEMBER, 2013

Mosman Home Gardeners Society Inc. are hosting a 'Floral Festival - First Flush of Spring' this weekend. The event is open from 10am to 5pm for the floral show, then from 6pm to 9pm for the cocktail event on Saturday. The event is also open from 10am to 12 noon on Sunday for the Sale day. The event will celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Garden Club. Her Excellency, Marie Bashir, Governor of NSW will be officiating on Saturday. Join the Blackheath & District Horticultural Society for its annual Flower & Craft Show this weekend. The event is being held at the Community Hall, Great Western Highway, Blackheath (walking distance from the railway station). Open on Saturday from 12 noon to 5pm and on Sunday from 9am to 3.30pm. The Bathurst Spring Spectacular is happening this weekend. Thre are ten beautiful gardens in the Bathurst area to visit over the weekend. Tickets for the entire weekend are $15 per person. Members and friends of The RHS of NSW are invited to spend a day (or whole weekend) in the beautiful southern highlands while attending the Bundanoon Garden Ramble. Different gardens are available to visit every year. Tickets are available from the Soldiers' Memorial Hall, Bundanoon. $5 per garden or $20 for all gardens. Tour buses welcome. Don't forget to visit the wonderful 'gardeners' paradise' in the Memorial Hall where plants and garden-related items are available for purchase. Members of the Bemboka Garden Club invite you to attend their 29th annual Bemboka Flower Show. The Show is open to the public from 12 noon to 3pm. Congratulations to the following recipients of the RHS of NSW Inc. Medals at various Shows and events around the state:

As noted in the photograph above, RHS member, Mr. John Woodfield of Canberra was the recipient of the 2013 RHS (UK) Banksian Medal, presented by the NSW RAS at the 2013 Royal Easter Show for the most successful exhibitor. Congratulations John!

Mr Roy Brook was awarded the RHS of NSW Inc. special 150th anniversary medal for 'Most Successful Exhibitor' at the Central West Horticultural Society (Dubbo) Inc. on 14 October, 2012. Roy also won the NSW Rose Medal for Champion Rose at the Show. Congratulations Roy. A photo appears below of RHS Judge, Mrs. Maureen Ford of Lithgow presenting Mr. Brook with his award.

Mrs. Jean Young was awarded the RHS 150th anniversary medal by the Ramsgate-Sans Souci Garden club in late 2012. Jean has been a member of the garden club for 24 years and was presented with the award to recognise her winning the highest annual point score, from a strong field of exhibitors. Society Hon. Secretary, Carolyn Gates also noted in her letter 'Jean has received many gardening awards over the years, but the RHS 150th Anniversary Medal is the most delightful one she has been awarded'. Congratulations Jean - and 'job well done' for Ramsgate-Sans Souci Garden Club too! The photos provided will be included in the next RHS journal.
